Andrew Cross, having been convinced to join his former enemies against his new masters, has changed
out of his black armor into more normal clothing (though still black). Since Cross was able to be
turned once his free will was restored, the group knows their plan has a chance of working. Their
biggest problem is numbers, even with Jalen's shadow ninjas on side they are terribly outnumbered.
It is pointed out that the group has a pair of werewolves now, Dana and Oz, but Wyl indicates that
two hounds does not make a Wild Hunt. He goes on to say that it would be possible to establish a
new Wild Hunt, if only they could find someone who can see and speak with the dead and, better
still, has some kind of connection to a god of death. It is clear to everyone that Wyl is referring
to Ethan, who says he is up to the job. Wyl says there is just one more thing he needs before he
can start recruiting spirits into a new Wild Hunt and gets Ethan to follow him. After the pair have
left the others continue preparing their plan.
Using faerie magic, Wyl transports himself and Ethan to an open field outside of
Los Angeles. Something about the location is familiar to Ethan, but he cannot quite place it.
Wyl produces the magical Blood Drinker knife, which he has somehow managed to take from the
house without anyone noticing. He hands it to Ethan and tells him to stab it into the ground.
Ethan is reluctant, but ends up doing it. When he does, the knife glows and a trail of red light
works its way up the blade and onto Ethan's arm where it seems to sink into his skin. The blood
vessels in his arm seem to glow for a moment then fade. With that done, Wyl takes back the knife
and tells Ethan he needs one more thing, mostly for aesthetic reasons. A short hop (again thanks to
Wyl's magic) and the pair are outside a biker bar where Wyl points Ethan towards a row of Harley
Davidson motorcycles, gesturing that he choose one. When Ethan asks if Wyl intends for him to
steal a bike, Wyl points out that the Wild Huntsman needs a horse and promptly produces a key from
his jacket which miraculously (magically?) fits the exact motorcycle Ethan has chosen. Wyl then
sends Ethan off into the Los Angeles night, telling him that the spirits that are worthy of the hunt
will join him automatically now, he just has to seek them out.
As Ethan cruises through LA gathering the spirits of deceased policemen, soldiers,
and gang members into the new Wild Hunt, the others have finalized the preparations. Patrick, Caiel,
Jalen, and the shadow ninjas will attack the Army of Light at their base in an old abandoned
monastery in Los Angeles. Meanwhile Cross, Dana, Oz and Ethan and his new Wild Hunt will go after
the Army of Darkness at their base in the old Maylum Asylum. Lorne and Bethany will remain at the
house to help Lauren use her psychic connection to free the ensnared soldiers of the two armies
while Jalen's brother Ben sets up the satellite connection to create the planetwide protection
circle. Ethan returns to the house with the new Hunt in tow, and no one else besides Caiel can see
them, though Dana and Oz are able to once they change into their wolf forms. With nothing left to do
the two assault groups leave, parting with a final handshake between former partners, former enemies
and now allies Patrick and Cross, whose opposing mystical natures cause the lights to flicker and
sparks to literally fly when they touch.
Cross and the Wild Hunt arrive on the asylum grounds and the Count emerges with the
ensnared soldiers of the Army of Darkness behind him. Around the asylum grounds hordes of demons
scamper around in a chaotic pattern only they can understand, and in the distance the giant winged and
horned form of the demon king Gogol is visible. The Count curses Cross for betraying his new masters
and promises he will be punished. At the monastery Caiel and Patrick arrive and the leader of the
Army of Light, the seraphim Galael, steps out followed by his ensorcelled army. Above them fly the
angelic troops also recruited by Galael to his cause. Galael initially thanks Caiel for returning and
bringing Patrick with him, but Caiel tells him that is not why he's come as Jalen and the ninjas
emerge from the shadows.
With everyone in place, the group at the house make their play. Lauren, aided by
Lorne's psychic abilities and boosted by Bethany's magic, is able to reconnect all the ensnared
soldiers from both armies to their lost humanity, snapping them out of the thrall their respective
masters have them in. At the same time Ben sends the prepared magic spell into the hijacked global
satellite network, sealing the Earth off from the higher planes and cutting off any chance of either
army bringing in reinforcements. At the asylum, the Count does not notice the change that has come
over the soldiers and continues to banter with Cross, who is choosing his words in a way that he is
really talking to the soldiers, pointing out how no matter what the outcome of the war their masters
want them to fight they and their souls will be destroyed. As Cross' words take hold on the Army of
Darkness, Patrick is persuading the Army of Light to join him against Galael and the other Seraphim,
pointing out how they gave their lives defending Earth and humanity before and it is time to do it
again. With his speech done, Patrick moves in to attack Galael.
The attack is on at both camps. At the asylum, Cross immediately moves to attack the
giant Gogol with the help of some of the freed soldiers while the other soldiers, as well as Ethan,
Dana, Oz and the Wild Hunt go after the Count and the other demons. When the asylum's resident
poltergeist, Walter Blake emerges, Ethan gleefully uses his new abilities to bind the ghost to the
Wild Hunt and order him to attack the demons. At the monastery the shadow ninjas and the soldiers are
having trouble attacking their airborne foes. Just then, Caiel points out to the other seraphim that
the connection to the higher planes has been blocked and he uses his own power to force them from the
sky. Once the shocked seraphim have been grounded the ninjas and the soldiers attack in full force.
The battles have begun and the demons and angels suddenly find themselves outnumbered.
At the house, Lorne has pulled Lauren back to her body from the astral plane. The
house is under attack by two dozen demons, apparently dispatched from the asylum once it was
deduced where the interference came from. The best Lauren can manage is telekinetically launching
a drawer full of knives and other utensils at the attackers, which only manages to stop a couple of
the demons. At the main battle sites victory seems near as Patrick takes down Galael, taking off his
head after a pitched duel; while at the asylum Cross has nearly defeated the monstrous Gogol. Just
as things are almost won, however, the demons at the house burst through the doors and windows and
in the process the computer managing the satellite link is knocked over. The program crashes and
the satellites are knocked out of synch, breaking the protection circle.
At the battle sites the effect is immediate. The asylum grounds tremble as fissures
open up, gateways to Hell dimensions that pour out demonic reinforcements. At the monastery the
wounded and fallen seraphim rise, even the beheaded Galael whose physical avatar is resurrected
by a shaft of light from the sky. The demons at the asylum attack the Wild Hunt, dragging many
of the hunters (including Walter) down into the pits of Hell; and at the monastery the angelic
warriors take to the sky, gaining an aerial advantage that lets them cut down many of the ninjas
and soldiers.
Outnumbered and outpowered, the four at the house are at the mercy of the attacking
demons. All seems lost until Lorne comes up with a desperate idea. Realizing that Bethany's spell
connecting Lauren to the collective unconscious of all humanity is still up, he tells Lauren to
use her telekinesis like she never has before. With the link to the rest of the world in place she
has a nearly unlimited pool of psychic power to draw on. With no fear of passing out from the drain
her powers normally cause, Lauren goes all out. With a single telekinetic burst she drives back the
attacking demons. While Lauren tosses the demons about like rag dolls, Lorne and Bethany grab weapons
and provide cover for Ben to get the computer up and running again. With the demons unable to interfere
thanks to Lauren's efforts, Ben gets the satellite link up re-established and recreates the circle of
protection.
Just as the loss of the link had an immediate effect, its recreation does as well.
The Count had been battling Ethan and, though injured, was healed by Hellfire pouring out of one
of the fissures. With the circle back in place, the fissures begin to close up, including the one
the Count was linked to. Trapped in the ground at the waist by the closed fissure, the Count is
helpless as Ethan effortlessly decapitates him with an axe. Disoriented and in shock, the remaining
demons become easy prey for Dana and she tears through them with Oz close behind. At the monastery
the seraphim are equally shocked by the sudden severing of their newly reestablished link. The
distraction is enough for Patrick to repeat his killing blow, again decapitating Galael. The remaining
seraphim soon begin to fall to the combined forces of the surviving ninjas and the last of the soldiers.
Back at the asylum, Cross has the giant Gogol down to its knees. Seeing victory, Cross grabs a sword
from one of the fallen soldiers and expertly throws it upward, the blade driving through Gogol's jaw
and into its head. With a final roar the demon king topples to the ground.
With their leaders gone and no chance of reinforcements the remaining forces from
both armies do not last long. At the monastery, Caiel surveys the damage and states that as soon as
the circle is deactivated he will return to the higher planes. After this defeat, Galael will have
lost a great deal of influence and Caiel knows it will be easy to convince the remaining Powers That
Be to punish him and the other rogue seraphim accordingly. At the carnage filled asylum grounds,
Ethan tracks down Dana and Oz to give them the spare clothes he packed so they could change back to
human form without worrying about being naked. After getting dressed, Dana spots Wyl near the body
of the demon king Gogol. Knowing he had deliberately avoided the battles, she wonders what he is doing
and goes over to see. Dana is maddened to discover that Wyl has the Blood Drinker with him and is
using it to steal the last of the demon king's essence. When she confronts him, Wyl simply states that
his queen has a use for the stolen essence, namely as a bargaining tool for the next time the demons
try and invade the faerie realm. He prepares to take his leave, but does take the time to suggest that Ethan
go looking for a nice hat. When Dana looks at Ethan she is shocked to see a small pair of antlers growing
from his forehead. It is then that Ethan realizes why the field Wyl took him too was familiar, it was
where Wolfram & Hart had killed the previous Wild Huntsman. When he stabbed the knife into the
ground Ethan had absorbed the blood of the dead Huntsman, so he truly was the new Wild Hunstman, antlers
and all!
After some cleanup efforts, the survivors from both battles, freed soldiers and ninjas
included, return to the house. After a quick debriefing of everyone, the entire bunch heads for the
group's favorite post-battle hangout, the Blue Plate Diner. There Janine, the poor waitress, finds
herself serving pie to the strangest group of people (and things) she has ever seen.
