Dana finally notices that the cover of the Book of Zar-n'Atoth has changed. She
opens the Book and discovers that the inside has changed as well, with new passages having
appeared from nowhere. Looking out of the window, Dana is shocked to discover that some of the
stars in the sky around the constellation of Orion look like they have moved! She is even more
shocked when she realizes that the newly-changed pattern on the Book's cover mimics the altered
pattern of the constellations. In his apartment several floors below, Gordon somehow senses that
the Book has been opened.
Downtown on a sunny afternoon, Lauren's attention is caught by an attractive man
in a suit. Snooping in on the man's cell phone conversation leads Lauren to introduce herself as
it sounds like he has incompetent office staff. The man's name is Brian Harker; he is an
investment banker and Lauren manages to wrangle a job interview out of him for the following
day.
That night while on patrol, Patrick is attacked by a demon who appears to have
been targeting him specifically. The fight is close, but Patrick emerges victorious if not
unscathed. Elsewhere in the city, Jalen is nearly killed by a rooftop sniper. When he heads up
to find the sniper, Jalen is nearly killed by an explosive booby-trap left by the would-be
assassin.
Back at her apartment, Dana's study of the Book is interrupted by a knock at
the door. It is Gordon, who claims he can hear something in the apartment calling to him. Once
he is in the apartment, Gordon can hear voices coming from the Book, though it is nothing he can
understand. Dana sees that when Gordon is near the Book its cover starts to shift shape again.
At a loss, Dana contacts Patrick and they agree to meet with the others at Ethan's apartment.
Before meeting the others, Dana goes to the Oracle. When she arrives, the Book
begins reacting to something in the Oracle's apartment. The Oracle can't offer much advice, but
knows that something major is coming. After Dana leaves, Lorne comes out from the back room to
comment on the ominous portents that have been appearing everywhere, and on something unusual
he saw in Dana's aura.
At Ethan's apartment the group meets to figure out what to do, though Ethan
himself is curiously absent again. Whatever is happening, it is tied to the Book and the demon
god called the Devourer. The only thing the group has to go in is the involvement of Kronos
Industries. Dana hacks into their computer system, but can't find anything indicating what is
happening. In the end Patrick and Jalen decide they must break into the Kronos offices again
to find out what they need to know. Unknown to the group, the assassin who earlier tried to
kill Jalen is across the street from them, listening in on the conversation with a directional
microphone.
