Dana returns to LA and, after waiting to no avail for one of the others to contact her, calls
Patrick and learns of the battle from the night before. The scene shifts to the hospital, where
Jalen is out of the ER and in intensive care. Elsewhere in the hospital, a gaunt figure in a lab coat
enters the morgue. The attendant calls the man Dr. Maalik and tells him there are several promising
cadavers in that day.
Ethan wakes up in the hospital shortly after Dana arrives. He, Dana, and Patrick all
head to Jalen's room in intensive care. While they are there, Dr. Maalik arrives, wielding some kind
of curved ceremonial dagger and apparently intent on removing some of Jalen's limbs or other body
parts. Maalik's inhuman nature is made clear when he opens his lab coat to reveal a pair of demon
arms grafted onto his torso. Patrick realizes that Maalik is the one behind the patchwork demons he
and Jalen fought the night before.
Dana, Patrick, and Ethan all try and attack Maalik. The doctor defends himself with the
dagger and Ethan stabs him in the eye with one of Jalen's shuriken. Patrick then tackles Maalik,
sending both of them out the window on a three story drop to the parking lot below just as Lauren is
arriving. Patrick survives the fall but Maalik apparently does not and his body is whisked off to the
hospital morgue. Patrick, Lauren, Dana, and Ethan meet up in Jalen's room again until they are sent
away by an ER doctor and Jalen is moved to another room (one without a broken window). Down in the
morgue Dr. Maalik, not a dead as they had assumed, attacks the morgue attendant, killing him and
taking one of the attendant's eyes to replace the one damaged by Ethan.
In the waiting room, Patrick notices a commotion with some of the ER doctors. He
follows them to the morgue and realizes that Maalik is not dead. Searching the hospital's lower
levels he finds an open sewer access and he heads off in pursuit, with Dana, Ethan, and Lauren
following a few minutes behind.
Patrick has nearly caught up with Maalik when he is attacked by three of Maalik's
patchwork demon creations. Using the dagger, which he took from Maalik after the fall, Patrick makes short work of the
demons. The dagger is apparently a weapon of some mystic power as it cut straight through the
demons' flesh with little resistance. Also, the blade absorbed some of the blood of the
slain demons and started glowing, another sure sign of an enchantment.
Dana and Ethan take the dagger from Patrick, against his protests, and head to the
UCLA library's occult section to research it. The discover the dagger is an ancient weapon
called the Blood Drinker and that, while powerful, it is also dangerous. The dagger absorbs the
blood of whatever it cuts and drains part of the victim's life force, transferring a portion of it
to the wielder. Once it has tasted blood, the dagger also tries to influence its wielder to kill
more. These two facts are more than enough to convince Dana and Ethan to tuck the dagger away in a
safety deposit box and not let Patrick know where it is.
With Jalen still recovering in hospital, and Ethan moved out, Lauren heads back to
the apartment eager to have the place to herself for a while. Just after she arrives, however, she
is hit with a vision. The vision shows a masked intruder in the apartment. He appears to be setting
up some kind of explosive. Lauren snaps out of the vision and looks around frantically but it is too
late; outside the building the intruder activates a remote control, detonating the explosive and
destroying the apartment building with Lauren still inside.
