Ethan is researching Death Goddesses and Spirits in an attempt to identify the Woman
in White he saw. When Dana heads down to the basement's occult library to work on her own research
she decides to help out Ethan instead. Since the demon they killed was from Hindu myth she suggests
narrowing their search to that, but it still leaves dozens of possible spirits and Hell dimensions.
On patrol, Jalen and Patrick spot a pair of vampires running from something. Patrick
pursues the vampires while Jalen sees what they were running from. The ninja spots a team of three men
dressed in identical black jeans and sweaters armed with knives and some kind of sidearm. The
"commandos" almost spot Jalen and escape themselves while Jalen tries to avoid their search.
Having lost the commandos, Jalen rejoins Patrick in time to save a couple of university coeds from
the vampires. While observing the vampires prior to the attack, Patrick overheard them talking about
their attackers; apparently the commandos were exhibiting superhuman strength and speed during the
fight. The next day they return to the alley where Jalen had observed the commandos and find evidence
that at least two vampires had been dusted (killed) in the alley. Patrick finds a half-size wooden crossbow bolt
embedded in a wall and wonders if the commandos' sidearms were hand-crossbows. Patrick then uses his connections
with the LAPD to get the traffic camera footage for the intersection near the alley. They aren't able to get
much detail, but there is enough to show Patrick and Jalen that the commandos know their stuff. The three
men can be seen skillfully tracking the vampires and taking care not to be seen by any potential witnesses.
The next day Patrick and Jalen make plans to try and find the commandos, while Ethan makes plans
for a picnic for himself and Emma.
It takes a couple of days, but Patrick and Jalen manage to spot a group of vampires being
tracked by the commandos. They watch from a distance while the commandos use alternating teams to trick
the vampires into a mostly empty parking garage. While they arrive too late to see the ambush, Patrick
and Jalen do hear the sounds of the fight and the vampires appear to not have stood a chance. Patrick
and Jalen make their presence known and introduce themselves, and offer their comments and praise on the
commandos' tactics. The leader of the commandos introduces himself as Lt. Tom Edwards, and returns the
compliments, noting that Patrick and Jalen had managed to enter the parking garage unseen by his
sentries. Edwards tells Patrick that he and his team have hunted vampires elsewhere, but does not give
specifics, nor does he say why they have come to Los Angeles. Edwards does promise to tell his men about
Patrick and Jalen so they won't be surprised if the pair show up during one of the commandos' vampire
hunts. Beyond that the commandos remain fairly secretive.
Ethan uses the picnic to get Emma out of the house and try to help her adjust to her
new life and responsibilities as a member of their little demon hunting group. In the middle of the
picnic Emma receives a vision of a fight in a vampire lair in East LA. Patrick and Jalen head to the
location and find the lair, an abandoned tenement full of half-alive street people, mainly teenagers
and other runaway kids. It looks like a fairly large group of vampires is using the place as a nest
and keep the kids weak as a renewable food source. From the looks of the building, a major fight took
place and there is evidence that several vampires were killed recently. Patrick and Jalen stake out the
building to see if any more vampires show up but none arrive. They call the authorities to tell them
about the people in the building and wonder if they've seen another example of the commandos' handwork.
At a secret location outside of Los Angeles, Tom Edwards and his team return to their base
of operations after the raid on the tenement building. They have several vampires with them as prisoners.
One of the prisoners is taken to a lab where he is strapped into a chair with several strange devices
hooked up to it. In the lab is the demon scientist Dr. Maalik, somehow alive despite his rather thorough
apparent death at the hands of Jalen on Halloween night. Maalik activates the devices and the vampire's
blood is slowly drained. The blood is run through several other devices and emerges in a processed liquid
at the other end. Maalik puts some of the liquid into a needle which he hands to Edwards, who promptly
injects himself in the arm with it.
