Retreating to the house, the group tries to understand what happened at the Wolfram
& Hart building. They are especially concerned about what happened to Patrick, though none of
them are willing to believe he is gone. Their first priority is recovery and after some first aid
by Ethan everyone goes to rest; with Jalen choosing sleep while Lauren draws a bath. Dana, growing
more and more comfortable with her abilities, chooses to change to her wolf form and go for an
exhausting run in the woods behind the house. With the others occupied, Ethan heads to the occult
library in the basement and begins preparing a magic spell. After the preparations are done Ethan casts
a locating spell to try and find Patrick but the spell finds no trace of him in Los Angeles. He then
starts researching more potent spells in the hopes of finding some trace of his friend.
After a few hours rest Lauren decides she should try and find out what happened. With
Jalen along as backup she returns to the now destroyed Wolfram & Hart building. Sneaking past
the police barricades she uses psychometry to get a reading on the events from earlier. Her vision
shows her much of what she had already witnessed personally, but also shows her Dana's battle with
the other werewolf, and then reveals Patrick's fateful battle with the Circle of the Black Thorn
and the Hart. At the moment she witnesses Patrick stab the Hart, Lauren's vision abruptly ends and she
finds herself violently thrown from the wreckage across the street where she strikes the wall of another
building before Jalen can reach her.
Back at the house Ethan has uncovered a spell that he hopes will let him find Patrick.
Ethan casts the spell and finds his own ability to see spirits and other phenomena greatly increased.
As his breadth of vision increase to include the entire house, then the neighbourhood, the city and
beyond Ethan realizes he is in danger of sensory overload. By force of will Ethan breaks off the spell
before collapsing. He is found there by Dana, who had returned from her run in time to hear the noise
as Ethan fell. As Dana scolds Ethan (again) about messing with magic he tells her that the spell found
absolutely no trace of Patrick, and that it also showed that the supernatural forces, at least around
Los Angeles, seem strangely muted or dampened. A short time later Lauren and Jalen return and tell the
other two what Lauren saw in her vision.
With what they have learned, the group realizes that a major blow has been struck against
Wolfram & Hart and their machinations. Dana calls their friends in hiding at the safe house and tells
them it is safe for them to emerge. When Lorne learns that Patrick killed one of the Senior Partners he is
shocked. As he and Dana discuss the ramifications of such an act it becomes clear that a major change
has occurred in the supernatural world, and change is rarely a good thing, at least in the short term. Lorne also echoes
fears about Patrick's fate, leading the others to begin to wonder if their friend is really gone. The
exception is Jalen, who continues to expect Patrick to walk in the front door sometime soon.
After another day of rest and recuperation, the group starts to pick up the pieces of
their disrupted lives. Dana returns to UCLA to salvage her master's degree while Ethan is recruited by
Anne Steele to help fix up the Teen Shelter, damaged by Wolfram & Hart's agents weeks earlier.
Jalen, still waiting for Patrick to return, is coerced by Lauren and her sister Emma to join them on
a shopping trip (as long as he brings his credit cards). With everyone out living their lives again the
house suddenly seems very, very empty.
Elsewhere in Los Angeles, Lorne has at last returned to the apartment he shared with the
Oracle and begins to clean up. As he starts his tasks he hears a strange but familiar sound and with
a downcast look exclaims "Oh no, not again."
