Having thwarted Leland Richter's attempt to summon the demon Azathoth,
at least temporarily, the group takes some much-deserved downtime.
Ethan attempts to get some time alone, but is constantly surrounded
by ghosts. A persistent visitor is Dr. Mark Spencer, the ghost of a psychiatrist that
has appointed itself Ethan's "therapist".
Jalen, meanwhile, goes out in search of money. He interrupts what he
thinks is a mugging but in reality it is a movie shoot. Jalen's actions catch the eye
of the stunt coordinator who offers him a job. When he is told that he needs an
agent, Jalen goes to the only agent he knows, the Oracle. The Oracle is caught off
guard by the request but his secret partner, Lorne, relishes the idea of getting back
into show business, however vicariously. Lorne starts working out the details to get
Jalen into the movies.
At the apartment Lauren receives an unexpected visitor, her younger
sister Emma. Over dinner, Lauren learns that her parents have been lying about what
happened to her. While Lauren was committed to the mental institution her family had
been telling everyone that she was away in Europe. Emma only learned that Lauren was
back in Los Angeles because a friend of hers had seen Lauren at a store.
Unlike the others, Patrick does not take the time to rest. Driven by
the mystical instincts that are part of the abilities forced on him by the Powers
That Be he goes on patrol. Spotting a pair of vampires, he follows them into an
alley. Patrick dusts the first vampire and turns to face the second, who starts
pulling out a weapon as Patrick stakes him. With the second vampire gone, Patrick
notices that it was not a weapon the vamp was pulling out put some papers. As
Patrick picks up the papers a lawyer from Wolfram & Hart appears from the mist
telling him he has been served with divorce papers.
Dana is also at work, going through the recently recovered Book of
Zar-n'Atoth, trying to figure out what Richter was up to. There is a knock on her
apartment door and Dana finds a sheet of looseleaf with a message written in pen,
but in a demon language. She is able to decipher the message, which seems to be written in a
modern variant of the language of Cyttorath demons. The message is for Dana herself,
a kind of vague warning. She continues to study the letter, but her efforts are
interrupted by another knock on the door. She opens it and Ethan is there, and he
promptly kisses her then departs, leaving a shocked Dana alone again.
Returning to the diner, Ethan starts another "therapy session" with
the ghost of Dr. Spencer.
