With the mystical winter continuing to plague Los Angeles the group ponders what can
be done, especially with the revelation that it is tied to the Norse apocalypse called Ragnorok. Dana
feels that the magical box their reluctant guest Gwen Raiden opened has something to do with the
weather but none of the others seem eager to go out looking for it. Ethan seems more interested in
research as he seeks to understand the cryptic words spoken to him by the being he now knows must
have been Hel, the Norse goddess of death. Patrick and Ethan meanwhile seem to believe that this
magical winter will last a while and begin fixing up the house for the weather.
Running out of patience Dana decides to head off in search of the box with Gwen. They
pile on layers of clothes against the cold and head outside, where the temperature has already dropped
to a point where it is too cold to even snow anymore. Not that Los Angeles needs any more snow, as the
city has become paralyzed under several feet of the white stuff. Knowing time is of the essence Gwen
steals a Hum-Vee parked in the driveway of one of the more opulent houses nearby. When Gwen hot wires
the car by generating a jolt of electricity from her finger Dana realizes there is more to this thief
than meets the eye. She and Dana head into LA to where Gwen hid the box: a movie memorabilia-themed
restaurant.
At the house Ethan has had no luck finding anything about the Norse gods in any of the
ancient tomes in the occult library. Finally Emma points out to him that she saw some books on Norse
stuff in the upstairs study. Ethan goes to look and finds a TIme-Life book series on mythology,
including several volumes on Norse myths. He realizes that besides Greek myths, the Norse myths are
the most widely known to the public so of course there are plenty of public resources to help with
research. Ethan even wonders if it would be worthwhile to track some issues of the Thor comic book.
When Dana and Gwen arrive at the restaurant they find an odd seen. A group of trolls are
already inside the abandoned locale, doing battle with a group of undead Vikings (known as Draugr).
Why the Draugr are there is a mystery, but it is obvious who the trolls are working for as once they
are inside Dana and Gwen find themselves facing Mr. Locke, now revealed as the Norse god Loki. Locke
admires the two ladies' spirit and offers them the opportunity to join him, saying he could guarantee
them a place by his side in the new world to come. When Dana points out that according to legend he
won't survive Ragnorok, Locke just laughs and says he has that angle covered. When Dana and Gwen refuse
to tell him where in the restaurant the box is hidden Locke attacks, changing shape into a giant snake
and wrapping around Dana. He then turns to face Gwen and uses a form of hypnosis to entrance her. Under
Locke's thrall Gwen gives up the location of the box but Dana wriggles free and grabs it before he
can get to it. Locke then turns his attention to Dana, but before he can attack Gwen shows just how
strong her powers are, jolting Locke with a massive bolt of electricity.
With Locke suitably distracted Dana and Gwen race back to the Hum-Vee and take off.
Behind them Locke picks up one of the large troll hammers and effortlessly throws it at the departing
vehicle, smashing the rear of the Hummer. He then shifts shape again, this time into a giant wolf and
runs off in pursuit. In the snow the Hummer cannot outrun Locke and he leaps on top of the vehicle.
As Locke, back in his human form, begins tearing off the Hummer's roof Gwen sends another jolt through
the vehicle's chassis. The shock sends Locke flying but also knocks out the Hummer's engine and it
slams into a snow bank. Dana and Gwen head off on foot, desperate to escape but knowing they cannot
outrun Locke, who has shifted back into his wolf shape.
The two girls continue to run and come tearing around a corner to find themselves
facing a pair of identical men in black suits seemingly standing atop the snow drifts. They are
frozen in shock as Locke comes running around the corner behind them. Locke comes to a stop when he
sees the two men in black, as he recognizes them as the human shapes adopted by Odin's ravens,
Huginn and Muninn. Locke turns and begins running in the opposite direction and the two men head off in
pursuit, running effortlessly across the tops of the snow drifts.
Still trying to fathom what just happened, Dana and Gwen notice a white stretch
limousine sitting atop a snow drift just down the street. The rear window rolls down and a hand motions
the two to come over. When they approach the limo they see that the passenger is an old man with white
hair and beard. He introduces himself as Alfred Woodman and Dana realizes it is Allfather Odin, the
leader of the Norse gods. He asks that they turn the box over to him so he can use it to end the
unnatural weather that has stricken Los Angeles. Seeing no alternative Dana hands the box over. The
limousine departs, leaving Dana and Gwen alone in the snow swept streets. The two begin to slowly make
their way back to the house when suddenly the sun comes out. The temperature begins to climb rapidly and
the snow starts to melt. Realizing that Woodman has put the magical winter back in its box Gwen decides
to part ways with Dana.
Dana makes it back to the house, by which time the temperature is close to normal for
Los Angeles at this time of year. She offers a brief explanation of the day's events before deciding to
head back to her apartment to get some rest.
