Given Locke's words that implied the god of trickery had found a way to prevent his own
death according to prophecy, Ethan decides to investigate the only way he knows to change a prophecy.
Heading to Anne Steele's East Hills Teen Shelter Ethan checks up on young Jennifer Guerrin, a teenage girl
whose dreams once had the ability to rewrite even the most powerful prophecy. Jennifer tells Ethan she
hasn't had any prophetic dreams since the one Patrick's evil double forced her to create, one in
which the double ruled over a world consumed in fire. Ethan tells her to keep an eye out for anything
strange and to call him if she needs anything.
Meanwhile Dana and the others have been doing more research on Ragnorok. According to
legend once the long winter has occurred only three major events remain. First two wolf brothers will
consume the sun and moon, plunging the world into darkness. When this occurs all magical bonds on
Midgard (Earth) will break, freeing the enemies of the Norse gods. This will lead to a battle between
the gods and their enemies, the giants of Jotunheim and an army led by Loki. After this the world will
be consumed in flame at the hand of the fire demon Surtur.
While the rest of the group worries about the end of the world, Jalen focuses on more
personal concerns, namely his lack of work for the past few months. He heads over to see his agent,
the Oracle, but when he arrives he finds the place in a shambles. The Oracle tells Jalen that several thugs
working for Wolfram & Hart came over asking about Jalen. They tore up the place and left, taking
the Oracle's copies of Jalen's contracts. After ensuring the Oracle was all right Jalen heads back to the
house to tell the others what had happened.
Ethan decides to check into things on his own. He heads over to Wolfram & Hart
himself and pays a visit to Alexandra Morelli. Always pleased to see Ethan, Alexandra tells security
to let Ethan in and he heads to her office. When he arrives, Ethan meets Alexandra's new secretary, who
he thinks is trying to flirt with him. Alexandra corrects Ethan when she points out that her
secretary is a vampire and was probably looking at Ethan as dinner. When Ethan asks about the visit to
the Oracle, Alexandra looks into it. Based on what she finds out she tells Ethan that the encounter
was not what he thought it was. It turns out the thugs were sent by a lawyer named Gregory Kent who
works for Wolfram & Hart's mundane clients. He isn't even cleared to know about the supernatural.
Kent works for some of the larger corporate clients of the firm, not any of the demonic ones. Whatever
interest he had in the Oracle or Jalen, it likely had nothing to do with the supernatural. Ethan takes
this information back to the house and informs the rest of the group.
While curious as to what to make of the new information, the group nonetheless has
more important things to worry about. While most of the group works on finding some way to avert
Ragnorok, Patrick spends the rest of the day cruising biker bars in the hope of finding Donner (aka
Thor, god of thunder). He finds plenty of places that Donner had been to, but in each case the god
was sent packing after drinking too much.
That afternoon the lawyer Gregory Kent comes to the house looking for Jalen. He informs
Jalen that he is working for a company called Omnitronics, who are very interested in meeting him. Jalen
decides to go with Kent and is taken to Omnitronics' headquarters. The two head up to the top floor of
the building where Jalen is introduced to Harlan Garret, the CEO of the company. Garret tells Jalen
that Omnitronics is in the process of acquiring a small computer electronics firm in San Francisco
called Bay Electronics and that Jalen's name came up in a routine legal search regarding the company.
Since Jalen was the only person they could find matching the name the search had revealed Omnitronics
had sent their lawyers out to find him. Whether or not Jalen really is the person they are looking for
is not certain, but Garret wants to make sure there are no problems with his acquisition of the other
company. As a result he is asking Jalen to sign over any potential interest he has in Bay Electronics
that may be revealed during or after the acquisition. In exchange Garret and Omnitronics are willing
to offer Jalen a substantial cash settlement. Confused, Jalen says he will have to think about it and
he leaves to inform the others what he has learned.
Back to the house the group starts to look into Omnitronics and Bay Electronics. The
smaller firm is making noise in the high tech business world as a strong up-and-coming company, but
that is not what gets the group's attention. According to the company history, Bay Electronics started
out as a small electronics store opened by a Cambodian immigrant named Lao Shan Vinh. When Lao, his
wife, and their infant son were killed while visiting family in Cambodia the business was taken over
by one of Lao's cousins. When Lao's older son (who had stayed behind when the rest of the family went
on the fateful trip to Cambodia) was old enough he took over the company and turned it into one of
Silicon Valley's hottest microcircuit design companies. Even more shocking to the group is the picture
they find of the current CEO, Obin Shan Vinh, who looks enough like Jalen to be his brother!
Jalen decides to head to San Francisco to investigate further. Patrick offer to drive
him and Dana and Ethan volunteer to come along as well. They figure its worth looking for the Norse
gods while they are in San Francisco since the home of the gods is supposed to be at the end of a
rainbow bridge, two things that San Fran is known for. Emma says she is staying to watch over her
sister, but the group is reluctant to leave her completely alone. Ethan decides to cover a pair of
bases and invites Jennifer Guerrin to stay at the house.
When they arrive in San Francisco, Ethan gets Patrick to drop him off at the hall of
records while the rest of them head over to Silicon Valley. Ethan starts digging into Jalen's
background and into that of Obin Shan Vinh. When the others arrive at Bay Electronics they immediately
wonder if maybe Jalen really is the younger brother of the company's owner, especially after the
receptionist initially mistakes Jalen for Obin. She lets the owner know that a man named Jalen
Shan Vinh is here to see him and Obin reluctantly agrees to see Jalen. Patrick and Dana wait in the
company lunch room, which is decked out with a pool table, video games, vending machines and other
usual items found in a high tech firm's break room. Though initially skeptical, Obin, who prefers to
be called Ben, eventually comes to realize that Jalen may really be his long lost baby brother. Further
proof arrives with Ethan, who has taken a cab to Bay Electronics with photocopies of documents that
indicate that Jalen really was born in San Francisco and was believed dead all these years. It seems
the birth certificate the Oracle conjured up for Jalen to help him get a job was in fact Jalen's real
birth certificate.
Jalen says he will be staying for a while so Patrick, Dana, and Ethan head into San
Francisco to look for gods. Ben tells Jalen about his family, and is eager to learn how Jalen discovered
the connection. When Jalen tells him about Omnitronics, Ben is furious. He tells Jalen that Omnitronics
is attempting a hostile takeover and would likely simply absorb the patents and lay off all the
workers. Since Jalen is technically part owner of the company (he would have inherited a share of it from
he and Ben's father) if he had signed his rights over to Omnitronics the larger firm would have had
enough control to buy out Bay Electronics. Learning this Jalen promises he won't sign over his interest
in what he has just learned is his family's business.
Meanwhile back in Los Angeles Gregory Kent and his thugs pay a visit to the house,
an attempt to intimidate Jalen into signing the contract with Omnitronics. Instead of Jalen, though,
Kent and his goons find Emma and Jennifer. The attempt at intimidation falls far short when Emma
chases Kent and the thugs away with a two-handed battle axe retrieved from the armory in the basement.
Ben invites Jalen to stay with him for a few days and Jalen accepts. He calls Patrick
to tell the others that he will be staying so they should head back to Los Angeles without him. Ben takes
Jalen to his condo in the valley and offers to show him some family pictures. Leaving Jalen upstairs, Ben
heads down to get the photos. Just then Jalen's sixth sense warns him of danger. He turns around to find
himself face-to-face with a strange man carrying a sword. Before Jalen can react the man runs Jalen
though the heart with his blade. As Jalen collapses to the floor dying the man looks at him and utters
just two words: For Balder.
