At the location in Griffith Park that Ethan was told to go to (by Woden), he and Jalen search for a means to enter the Norse
land of the dead. Ethan spots a mysterious figure in the woods that none of the others can see, so he grabs Jalen and heads
towards the figure. As the others watch, Ethan and Jalen vanish into a newly formed mist deep in the forest. The others then
head back to the house. As Ethan and Jalen make their way deeper into the mist-enshrouded woods the trees become greyer and
the temperature drops. Eventually the two find themselves in a frigid land populated by sparse, dead trees. The mystery
figure Ethan was following has vanished, but he and Jalen find that they are not alone. Standing near them, Ethan sees his
dead fiance, Julie, whose ghost has been haunting him periodically for nearly a year. Ethan is shocked when he realizes that
Jalen can see and hear Julie, until she reminds him that they are in the land of the dead. Here she is solid and Julie proceeds
to embrace Ethan, telling him she followed him here knowing it would give them a chance to be together again if only for a little
while.
Back at the house the others discover that werewolf Dana has escaped. While Emma stays behind Patrick and Lauren
decide to search for her. Initially wondering if they should try and get Wolfram & Hart's help, they quickly realize that
Lorne and the Oracle will be able to assist them in their search. Meanwhile TV reports indicate that a typhoon in the Pacific has
unexpectedly changed direction and threatens to hit Los Angeles in a matter of hours. In the frozen land of Niffleheim Ethan,
Jalen, and Julie begin searching for a way into Hel's realm when they spot a dog nearby approaching them. After a few minutes the
dog is still approaching and the three realize that it is much further away, and much larger, than they originally thought.
The dog is Garm, the hound that guards the land of the dead, and Jalen prepares to fight it so Ethan and Julie can sneak by.
There is no need for a battle, however, as Garm changes direction and heads away from them. At first the three are relieved,
but then they notice that Garm has joined an army of the dead departing Hel's realm. The final battle of Ragnarok must be
starting soon so the three have to act fast.
Patrick and Lauren arrive at the Oracle's to get help locating Dana. When Lorne gets a look at Lauren he
immediately sees that the nature of her visions has changed, in his words she's gone from "dial-up to broadband".
Lauren asks how that can help Dana, Lorne explains that Lauren is plugged directly into the human group consciousness now, with
a little work she should be able to focus in on specific individuals like Dana. With Lorne helping her focus, Lauren begins
probing the psychic realm for Dana and is able to make contact. Dana suddenly finds herself in a white realm standing with
Lorne and Lauren. The white space is Dana's own consciousness and the mystic wolf spirit that represents her werewolf nature
is also present. With Lorne and Lauren's help Dana is able to win a battle of wills with the wolf spirit and take control of
her body even though it is still in its werewolf form. Dana makes her way to the Oracle's place and joins up with Patrick.
The effort has exhausted Lauren so she stays behind as Patrick and Werewolf Dana make there way to the mountains north of LA
where Dana's heightened senses have detected the final battle of Ragnarok starting.
Back in Hel's realm Ethan, Jalen and Julie are met by the goddess of death herself. Hel greets Ethan, again
noting that he should be hers and wondering why he is not. Ethan has no time for games and tells Hel that they have come for
Balder. Hel asks why she should let them take Balder out of her realm and Ethan asks what she wants in exchange. Hel says she
will let Balder go if they give her light to replace him. Ethan at first thinks she wants a flashlight, or matches or something
but Hel makes it clear she want something more spiritual in nature. With little choice Ethan, Jalen and Julie all agree that
Hel can have what she wants. The goddess smiles and directs the three to where they can find Balder. The god of light is
melancholy, an effect of being trapped in land of the dead, but the pleas of the three convince him to come back to the
Earth realm with them, especially when he apparently sees what they had to give up to Hel in order for her to agree to let
him leave.
North of Los Angeles, in the mountains and canyons, Patrick and Dana see the massive final battle of Ragnarok
already underway under cover of the massive rains from the oncoming typhoon. Initially wondering if they should help the Norse
gods against the major threats like the giant Midgard Serpent or the deadly wolf Fenris, they change targets once Dana's
senses locate the cause of all this carnage, Locke. Patrick and Dana head to confront Locke, but first they have to get past
the wolf-demon Adam. Initially the two can only fight the demon to a draw, but Dana gives into some of her werewolf rage and
punches her fist straight through Adam's chest. The wound releases the mystic sun energies back into sky, killing Adam in the
process. The two then turn their attention to Locke, but the god proves more than a match for them. When Patrick tries to impale
Locke with his sword, the chaos god simply pulls the blade out of his chest and uses it to pin Patrick to a canyon wall. He turns
to face Dana, but at that point Ethan and Jalen arrive with Balder. With the god of light restored the creatures that make up
Locke's army begin to retreat back to their realms.
With his armies in retreat and his plans thwarted, Locke tries to flee but is caught by Donner, who drags the
god of lies back to Asgard behind his motorcycle. With the thunder god gone, the typhoon begins to dissipate, and the field of
battle is soon empty except for the heroes and Balder. He thanks them for their help, and turns to Julie (now a ghost again,
invisible to everyone but Ethan and Balder). He tells her that she does not belong in the land of the living and offers to take
her to the other realms with him. Julie is reluctant to leave, but she knows she can't stay. She agrees to go with Balder, happy
that at least this time she and Ethan have the chance to say goodbye to each other.
With the sun rising, Dana runs off before she changes back to human shape (knowing she'll be naked). Patrick,
Ethan and Jalen then collect Lauren at the Oracle's and head to the Blue Plate Diner for post-apocalypse pie. Though reluctant
to confront her friends now that they have learned her secret, Dana eventually decides to join them in the somewhat muted
celebrations.
