Ethan and his fiance Julie are at the diner where the conversation ranges across
a variety of mundane topics, from curtains to visiting relatives to what to have for desert. It
is only once Ethan begins feeling sharp pains in his chest that the unreality of things begins
to set in. Finally Julie comments that "this will have to do" and tells Ethan that
they'll see each other again soon. There is a flash of bright light and the diner vanishes as
the paramedics have managed get Ethan's heart beating again after his overdose.
Patrick returns to the house after his apparent murderous night out. Desperate
to end the threat of Patrick's "Evil Self", the group prepares to meet with the
Native shaman who has offered to help. Dana retrieves the mystic knife that started the whole
mess, as well as the other items the shaman required and she, Patrick, Jalen, and Lauren head
out. In the desert the Lakota shaman, Sky-Walker, is waiting for them. The shaman does not
exactly look the part (he wears a T-Shirt that reads My other car was stolen by the White
Man), but it is apparent that he knows what he is doing. With Dana's help, the shaman sets
up the ritual. It takes several hours, but the shaman is able to draw out the essence of
Patrick's evil double and sever it from Patrick's own using the mystic knife. Now separate
the evil essence is imprisoned in a bottle which the shaman then tosses into the fire, sending
it back to the nothingness from which it came. It takes no time to verify that the ritual had
the desired effect, with the evil essence removed Patrick's head is clear for the first time in
ages. The group thanks the shaman and head back to LA. Once the group has returned to the city
(or at least to cell phone service range) Dana sees that she has a voice mail. The message is
from Anne, letting Dana know that Ethan is in the hospital.
At the hospital Ethan regains consciousness. Anne is there and tells him that
he had overdosed. She had learned about his getting fired from the clinic and, worried, she
went to his apartment. When there was no answer she broke in and found him unconscious and
barely breathing so she called 911. When Patrick, Jalen, Dana, and Lauren arrive at the
hospital Anne leaves, not telling them what happened in the hopes that Ethan will. Ethan is
less than talkative, though, and it takes Jalen sneaking a peek at the hospital chart to
learn about the overdose. Even when confronted with this, Ethan does not say much. Instead he
insists he wants to rest and encourages the group to work on Lauren's problem instead.
After leaving the hospital Dana and Lauren start to investigate what may have
happened to Lauren's visions. Meanwhile Patrick and Jalen go out on patrol, focusing on demon
hangouts in an effort to learn more about what Patrick's evil self had been up to. The two are
surprised to learn that Evil Patrick had actually been interfering in the affairs of other
demons. Specifically, most of the people Evil Patrick had murdered had been previously
targeted by other demons. For example, one of the children killed had been destined to grow
up to be a champion and another demon cult had planned on killing him only to be beaten to it
by Evil Patrick. The other murders turn out to have similar circumstances.
That night the two patrol some more. With the evil essence removed, Patrick's
"Spider Sense" is once again working and he senses an evil presence. Jalen spots a
winged figure moving across the rooftops. They follow it to an apartment building where Patrick
realizes he was sensing two separate presences, one stronger than the other. The stronger one
appears to be on the roof while the weaker is in the building. They split up, with Jalen heading
for the rooftop. Inside, Patrick enters one apartment to find a winged creature attacking a
family. On the roof, Jalen finds himself confronted by what appears to be a double of Patrick.
While Patrick is able to easily dispatch the demon in the apartment, Jalen is have far less
success. Patrick's double outmaneuvers the ninja at every turn and it is only the real
Patrick's arrival on the roof that keeps the double from killing Jalen. As Jalen slips in and
out of consciousness the two Patrick's duel. Finally the real Patrick gets in a near miss with
his sword, which knocks loose some kind of necklace the other was wearing. The necklace was
actually a magical charm that had been projecting Patrick's appearance around the other man.
With the illusions disrupted Patrick's double is revealed to be his old partner, Andrew Cross.
Cross uses Patrick's momentary shock as well as his concern for Jalen as a distraction and
flees, slashing the tires on Patrick's car to prevent pursuit. With Cross gone, Patrick turns
his attention to the wounded Jalen, quickly getting him to the emergency room.
Once Patrick is sure Jalen will be alright he calls the house. He informs
Dana that Cross is back, and that it looks like he may have been behind the "Evil
Patrick" murders all along. When Patrick also mentions what he learned about Evil Patrick
somehow having knowledge of other demons' activities in advance in order to plan his actions,
Lauren shockingly realizes that Cross may somehow have access to the visions. Faced with this
knowledge the group realizes that even with the evil essence removed from Patrick, there is
still a major threat present.
Elsewhere in the city we see the shaman's jeep pulling into an expensive looking
villa. Once inside the shaman gets out of the jeep, and promptly changes his shape to reveal
that he is in reality the mysterious Mr. Locke. Locke reaches into his coat and removes the
flask containing the evil essence removed from Patrick. After a quick comment to his
hench-Trolls about how easy it is to fool suckers with a little slight of hand, he pops the
seal off of the flask and drinks down the evil essence. Wiping his mouth, Locke comments that
with that out of the way things can get started properly.
