Ethan has again run out of food at his apartment and tells Jalen to
go get some. Jalen returns with a large bag of rice and seasonings. Ethan and Lauren
make jokes about Three's Company and when Jalen fails to understand they make him
watch several reruns on cable. Meanwhile Ethan goes in to work and Lauren begins job
hunting.
Since the encounter with the cultists of Azathoth, Dana has continued
researching the demon. She discovers that it is possible to free the demon from its
otherdimensional prison during a particular stellar alignment that occurs every few
hundred years, the latest occurrence of which began a week earlier and will last
several more weeks. Dana calls Patrick to tell him of her discovery. Patrick,
meanwhile, has been trying to get some rest, having been up all night compelled by
his powers to patrol for evil entities (the night before his abilities had drawn him
to a nest of vampires).
Lauren finds temporary work with a focus group set up to help a
record label decide which of its newly-signed acts will get a big marketing push.
With the money from the focus group, Lauren buys some clothes then goes for
groceries. In the grocery store she is hit by a vision and quickly returns home to
tell the others.
Lauren's vision shows college students in a park being attacked.
Determining that the vision took place on the UCLA campus, the group informs Dana
(who is closest) then proceed by car to the campus. Dana heads out on her own and
discovers a pack of hellhounds stalking the campus. She is ambushed and badly injured
before the others arrive to fight the beasts. The hellhounds are slain, but Dana is
left badly shaken by the encounter. A search of the area shows that the beasts were
brought to the campus in a van, which has fled the scene.
At an unknown location a group of men clad in black fatigues report
to their superior about the loss of the hellhounds. The men show video footage of
the heroes' battle with the beasts and their superior zooms in on a face he
recognizes... Patrick's.
